Game 1: Makos Rally in 9th to Edge Drillers 5-3

Tulsa, OK - The San Diego Makos clinched a narrow victory over the Tulsa Drillers with a final score of 5-3 on Wednesday night. The Makos showcased their resilience by overcoming a strong start from Tulsa in the first inning.

Tulsa Takes Early Lead Tulsa's offense came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning. Andy Woodford doubled on a hard ground ball to right fielder Edmond Parrish, setting the stage for a big inning. Martin Reid struck out, but Mark Hagerty followed with a single, advancing Woodford to third. Vincent Melendez then singled, scoring Woodford. Dave Schultz capped the inning with a three-run homer, putting the Drillers ahead 4-0. "I felt great to connect on that pitch," Schultz said. "We wanted to set the tone early, and I think we did that."

Makos Struggle to Respond The Makos managed to get runners on base in the top of the second with a single by Simon Barkley, but a fielder's choice and a double play ended the threat. Tulsa's defense was solid, highlighted by a double play turned by third baseman Martin Reid, second baseman Rich Rosen, and first baseman Mark Hagerty.

Tulsa Adds One More In the bottom of the third, Hagerty added to the Drillers' lead with a solo home run, making it 5-0.
